Welcome Dinner for the Mayor of BethlehemCJPP members and guests attended the Welcome Dinner for the Mayor of Bethlehem and his delegation, which was organised by The Australia-Palestine Twin City Committee and the Marrickville Friends of Bethlehem. Guests of honour at the reception were the Mayor of Bethlehem, Dr Victor Batarseh, his wife Mrs Marcelle Batarseh, Father Amjad Sabbara from the Church of the Nativity and Mr Anton Salman, respected Christian lawyer and Bethlehem Councillor.

Vale Professor Tanya ReinhartTanya Reinhart, a powerful Israeli voice, has been lost. She died suddenly of a stroke in New York on Saturday, March 17. Professor Reinhart was a dedicated political and human rights activist and fiercely opposed to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza. She was also a proponent of an academic boycott of Israeli universities to protest the occupation. We were lucky to have the opportunity to hear her speak in Sydney in 2006. CJPP joins activists around the world in mourning her death and we extend our sympathy to her friends and family.
Premiere film screening The Iron WallCJPP commemorated Palestine Land Day (March 30) with the Sydney premiere of the documentary film by Mohammed Alatar, The Iron Wall. The film was preceded by a talk by the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the International Commission of Jurists, John Dowd QC.

Public Meeting Courage to RefuseSpeakers included Rotem Mor, an Israeli refusenik, who spent a year and a half in the Israeli Military. He became a conscientious objector and spent a month in jail for refusing to continue his service to the Israeli army. Phil Reiss, Sydneysider just returned from the West Bank, was the second speaker. Our thanks to the LHMU for the use of their auditorium.
